North South University (NSU), the first private university in Bangladesh, was established by the NSU Foundation. The government of Bangladesh approved the establishment of North South University in 1992 under Private University Act 1992. It was formally inaugurated on February 10, 1993 by Begum Khaleda Zia, Honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh. The President of People's Republic of Bangladesh is the Chancellor of NSU.
From a modest beginning with 137 students in 1993 the student body has now grown to approximately 7500. NSU has the largest Business school in the country with 5400 students in the BBA, MBA and EMBA programs. Following an American model the school offers Masters and Bachelors degree in Business Administration having concentrations in Management, Marketing, Finance, Accounting, MIS, HRM, International Business, and Business Policy and Strategy. The MBA program has been designed following the guidelines of the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the highest accreditation body of business schools in USA. It is global, computer oriented, fast track, and competitively priced. Good students and good faculty are the two main ingredients of a good university. NSU is very selective about both the 'ingredients.' NSU has highly qualified faculty members. All faculty members are educated and trained in North American or equivalent universities.
NSU has produced a total of 3000 graduates and most of these graduates are employed in both nationally and internationally reputed companies. Many are pursuing higher education in renwned universities abroad.
In 15 years, NSU has established itself as a citadel of excellence and has been making a relentless effort to produce the best graduates and subject experts in the country. NSU has five professional and research wings: (i) Institute of Development, Environment and Strategic Studies (IDESS) (ii) The English Institute (iii) The Confucius Institute (iv) Center for Information & Communication Technology (CICT) and (v) Department of Career and Professional Development Services (CPDS).
