Keynote speaker: Hasan Mushtaq, Ph.D., P.E., CFM, PMP, M. ASCE,

Biography of speaker: Hasan Mushtaq received his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He received his Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering, from the Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. Dr. Mushtaq is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Arizona. He is a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) and also a Project Management Professional (PMP). Dr. Mushtaq works as the Planning Branch Manager at the Flood Control District of Maricopa. Dr. Mushtaq has more than 25 years of experience in the field of Water Resources Engineering. His vast experience and work has focused on Hydrologic/Hydraulic modeling, Area Drainage Master Studies/Plans, Capital Improvement Projects, Local Drainage Design, Storm Water & Urban Drainage Management, Land Development Projects, National Flood Insurance Program, Community Rating System, Floodplain Management, FIRM/FEMA Map Revision, Flood Insurance/Floodplain Delineation Studies, Flood Mitigation, Flood Warning/ALERT Systems, Green Infrastructure/Low Impact Development (GI/LID), Best Management Practices, Dams & Levees, Emergency Action Plans, Benefit/Cost Analysis, AZPDES/NPDES Water Quality. Dr. Mushtaq is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Arizona Floodplain Management Association (AFMA), Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM) and Association of State Dam Safety Official (ASDSO). Dr. Mushtaq is also a Certified Teacher for the Arizona Community Colleges within the State of Arizona.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (DCEE) of North South University hosted a seminar titled: “Potable Water Supply in Rural Bangladesh – Alternative Technological Options” on July 10, 2019 (Wednesday) at 11:00am in AUDI 801. Dr. Javed Bari, Dean, SEPS and Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam, Professor, DCEE, Dr. Shama E. Haque, Associate Professor, DCEE and Ms. Bushra M. Islam, Lecturer, DCEE were present in the seminar. Dr. Haque along with Ms. Islam and sixteen DCEE student volunteers organized this lively seminar. The seminar focused on potable water problems and crisis in coastal belt areas of Bangladesh. The speaker introduced audience members to alternative technological option and particularly the speaker focused on pond sand filters (PSF). Dr. Hasan Mushtaq, the keynote speaker, shared his personal experience and thoughts/views on the topic.

The seminar had a lively question and answer session followed by the presentation. The CEE students attended the seminar and the audience interacted with the keynote speaker during the question and answer session. Finally, Professor Dr. Javed Bari, Dean, SEPS and Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam thanked the speaker for his dynamic presentation and the audience for their active participations.
