Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Islam is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Physics at North South University. Prior to joining NSU, he worked at a full time Continuing faculty at MacEwan University for about 15 years. Although he worked for 3 years as a statistician in a R&D company upon graduation, he returned to his passion of teaching, in which he has accumulated over 25 years of experience.

His academic background includes a Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Calgary, an M.Sc. in Statistics from the university of Saskatchewan, a Diploma in Statistics, an M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics and a B.Sc. (Hons) in Mathematics from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

He has taught a wide variety of courses in mathematics and statistics at North South University, MacEwan University, University of Northern British Columbia, Dalhousie University, Memorial University, National University of Singapore and University of Dhaka. Dr. Islam has extensive statistical consulting experience with industry and academia in the planning, design, implementation, analysis and reporting of scientific research projects and in the design and analysis of questionnaires and surveys. He has collaborated with physicians and allied health professionals at Dalhousie University in Canada.

His research interests are in stochastic models, generalized linear models, longitudinal data analysis, multivariate data analysis, statistical genomics and applications of design of experiments.
