Dr. Zaied Ahmed Bhuyan joined NSU in January 2017 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology under School of Health & Life Sciences.

Dr. Zaied Ahmed Bhuyan completed his BS & MS degree in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from the University of Dhaka. He received Dean’s award from University of Dhaka for his excellent academic record in Bachelor. After completion of his MS, he joined BIRDEM as a Research Fellow and his research mainly focused on type 2 diabetes. Having further interest in science, he went to Japan for his doctoral study. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of Tokushima, Japan in 2014 where he studied the function of CD98hc, Notch and interleukin-22 in the development of autoimmune colitis and uveitis. He was awarded with prestigious Government of Japan Monbukagakusho Scholarship to complete his PhD work. His research contributions in PhD were recognized by University of Tokushima with Young Investigator Award. Then he moved to University of Queensland Diamantina Institute in Brisbane, Australia for post-doctoral study where he investigated the role of gut microbiota in the development and progression of inflammatory bowel disease in autoimmune prone mice.

At North South University, Dr. Bhuyan is currently engaged in teaching courses in Biomedical Science, e.g., Introduction to Biology, Human Physiology and Clinical Biochemistry.
