Shamir Shehab is a public policy analyst, and an aspiring social and environmental justice advocate. His professional interest lies in the intersection of climate change, development, and international affairs broadly, and current work revolves around climate policy and finance.
Shamir is a Lecturer at North South University and consults for Oxford Policy Management. Additionally, as a ‘Non-resident Researcher – Climate Finance and Policy’with the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD), under the guidance of Dr. Saleemul Huq, Shamir provides research and analytical support to ICCCAD’s climate finance and policy programmes aimed at strengthening capacity of public and private sector stakeholders in LDCs to access climate finance. He previously consulted and worked for several development organisations based in Bangladesh and abroad, including United Nations' Green Climate Fund (GCF). Shamir has more than 8 years of experiences working with CSOs, non-profits, think-tanks, development agencies, government, and others on climate change, renewable energy, and water projects, etc.
Shamir founded the Bangladesh Youth Environmental Initiative (BYEI) to educate, train and empower young people to become environmental champions. He received several national and international recognitions for this work, notably the Queen’s Young Leaders Award from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, an excellence award and an innovation grant from the U.S. State Department.
Shamir holds an MPA degree with a specialisation in environmental policy from Cornell University. He was a Yenching Scholar of politics & international affairs at Peking University, where he explored social & environmental impacts of China’s Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) as well as China's emerging role in global climate policy & environmental governance.
