Introduction

The Final Round of the ACM-ICPC 2005 Asia Regional Dhaka Site Event was held on Friday 23 September 2005 at North South University with 85 teams including teams from China and Malaysia. The practice session was held on 22 September 2005. The system performed smoothly.

Preparation and Registration

By the registration deadline 85 teams paid the registration fee and were accepted for the Preliminary Round contest. Since there were only 5 teams above our proposed limit, it was decided not to hold the Preliminary Round just to eliminate only 5 teams. Therefore all registered teams are advanced to the Final Round contest.

Final Round on 22-23 September 2005

The Practice Session began at 3:30 PM. Earlier registration of the teams started at 12 noon. Lottery was held at 3:00 PM and the practice session begun at 3:30 PM. All the registered teams attended the practice session that went very well.

The Final Round of the contest started at 8:10 AM on Friday 23 September 2005 which is only 10 minutes behind schedule and ended at 12:40 PM. All the 85 teams were present. The contest run very smoothly throughout. The entire Systems team headed by Dr. Farruk Ahmed and assisted by Mr. Azimul Hoque was very happy with the system performance.

At the end of the contest the Fudan University of China became the champion by solving 6 problems out of a maximum of 8 problems. Dhaka University Gryffindor became the first runner up by solving 4 problems and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) became the 2nd runner up also by solving 4 problems. A team from North South University became 10th I the university rankings.

We provided for the refreshments for the contestants, coaches, members of the Steering Committee and also provided lunches for all of them at Western Grill and Halvatia Fast Food.

The Award Ceremony was held at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel Winter Garden at 4:30 PM with Dr. M Asaduzzaman, Chairman, University Grants Commission as the Chief Guest. Mr. Iftekharul Alam, Chairman, Board of Governors, North South University Foundation and Dr. Hafiz G.A. Siddiqi, Vice Chancellor of North South University attended the ceremony as the Special Guest and the Guest of Honor respectively.The prizes were distributed to the top 16 teams (by university ranking).

A Cultural Program that included a concert by popular local band and a couple of dances followed the Award Ceremony. The audiences were enthralled.
The Dinner followed the Cultural program where more than 450 people attended.
