The purpose of this study was to assess the gender difference in incidence
and care-seeking pattern among the TB patients in rural areas of Bangladesh
and to examine the effectiveness of a gender-sensitive package program
in TB Control to reduce socio-cultural problems and improve TB care among
the female patients. Field work of this study has been completed and data
analysis & report preparation is under process.
Project PBH RP02: "Baseline
assessment of HIV/AIDS risk groups in Chittagong City & developing a surveillance
system for HIV/AIDS/STIs under the multisectoral HIV/AIDS program in Chittagong

The Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) requires a baseline study to assess
the gravity of the general STD/STI/HIV related risk situation to design
an effective intervention. Once the intervention is in place the CCC need
a monitoring system supported by modern MIS. In this regard the project
has been involved in performing a baseline survey on STD and HIV/AIDS
related issues and development of an effective & efficient monitoring,
supervision, and evaluation system liked to a strong MIS system. The overall
purpose of this research is to gather epidemiological data of high risk
groups for HIV/AIDS/STIs and to assess risk behaviors, treatment seeking
behaviors and awareness level among the population in the Chittagong City
Corporation area. In addition, the study will assess the present capacity
of the service providers in the healthcare facilities to address the HIV/AIDS
and undertaking effective interventions for the risk population. The study
will be completed in March 2007.
Project PBH RP03: "Assessment
of the Reproductive Health Message Needs and Choice of Mode of Message
Delivery for the Adolescents in Bangladesh" Funded by the Lutfar Rahman
Foundation

This study is being implemented in cooperation with a local non-government
organization named "Research, Education, Awareness and Cooperation for
Health (REACH)" among eight thousand study subjects (3000 adolescents,
3000 guardians and parents, and 2000 teachers & local community leaders)
in all six divisions of the country. The main objective of this research
is to assess the appropriate reproductive health message for the adolescents
in Bangladesh, their mode of delivery that the adolescents like to receive
and the parents and guardians recommend. The study will be completed in
December 2006.
