    The following schedule of tuition and fees was in effect when this Catalog was prepared. They are subject to change. However, this schedule will not be changed without notice before the beginning of a semester.

    Payment of Fees

    Students must pay the total amount of their semester tuition and fees on the day they register. NSU Accounts accepts bank-drafts or pay orders for the assessed amount payable to North SOUTH University. Personal checks are not accepted

    A late registration fee is assessed for students who register or pay their fees after the regular registration period. A student's obligation to pay regularly assessed tuition and fees is not reduced by an approval to defer payment.

    Students withdrawing from courses are eligible for refunds in accordance with the refund policy.



    Withholding Student Records

    The University withholds students' academic records for non-payment of tuition and fees and other appropriate charges or for not returning University property.



    Admission Fee

    The non-refundable Admission fee is assessed for admitted applicants following an admission test and before registration begins. An applicant forfeits the right of admission if the Admission Fee is not paid by the due date. Applicants are notified of such due dates by notice posted at NSU Registrar's Office



    Student Activity Fee

    The Student Activity Fee is due at the time of registration each semester the student is enrolled. This fee is used to support a broad range of student activities and interests.



    Non-degree Students

    The Admission Fee and other charges are assessed for non-degree students when they change status to degree candidates or when credits earned as a non-degree student are applied towards a degree from NSU.



    Tuition

    Tuition is due for registration at the beginning of each semester and is based upon the student's academic level (undergraduate or graduate) and the number of credits for which the student registers.



    Lab Fee for CSC Courses

    A Computer Laboratory Fee of Tk. 1000 is due at the time of registration in each semester a student enrolls for courses. An additional Computer Laboratory Fee of Tk 1000 is assessed for MIS 105 and CSC 135. This amount is added into the tuition fee for these courses, and may not be shown separately in a bill.



    Withdrawal and Refunds

    Applications for withdrawal from the University or from a course after the registration period is over, must be made in writing to the Department Chair or Program Director. Notification to an instructor is not adequate. In case of authorized withdrawals and changes in schedule/ registration (adds and drops) tuition will be adjusted as follows:

    • Through the last business day prior to the first day of classes: 100% refund
    • Through the first week of classes: 70% refund
    • Through the second and third week of classes: 50% refund
    • After three weeks of classes: No refund

    No adjustment is authorized for Admission or other assessed fees. In case of death of a student,adjustments will be made any time during the semester as authorized.

    Withdrawal as a result of serious illness or disabling accident will be subject to review by the University for possible variation from the policy described above. No adjustment will be made for a student who is facing academic difficulties, or who is suspended, dismissed or expelled for breach of the code of conduct.



    Other Expenses

    In addition to the applicable fees, students are required to purchase textbooks, instruments, and other personal equipment and supplies when needed for courses in the chosen curriculum.

    What is Financial Aid?

    Financial Aid is monetary assistance from institutional, governmental, or private source that is available to assist students in affording educational costs. This Financial Aid could be in the form of academic scholarships, tuition waiver, study loans, and student employment.

    Yes! Financial Aid is available at NSU to help you pay your university costs.

    How you will pay for your education is sometimes an important part of deciding which institution you will attend. The Financial Aid Cell of North South University understands that you and your family have been planning a lifetime for your future career. We also understand that many families need help for filling in the gap between what they can afford and the resources needed to pay university education costs. NSU attaches a high priority to Financial Aid and the University has a standing commitment to meet the financial need of eligible students.

    The Financial Assistance Committee of North South University administers a comprehensive program of institutional aid where students are encouraged to apply for Financial Aid if they believe that they will need assistance in order to attend North South University. The Financial Aid Cell started its operation from 1993 being responsible for corresponding and coordinating financial aid for students administered by Financial Assistance Committee. A total of Tk. 12,12,23,578.00 (Taka twelve crore, twelve lac, twenty three thousand five hundred seventy eight only) has been paid out among students till Summer 2006 from the University as financial assistance. More than 1000 students have been given full/ partial financial assistance during the last 9 years due to their high academic achievements in SSC/HSC/GCE examinations and also based on financial need.

    What Types of Aid are available at North South University?

    Various types of financial assistance are generally offered to the students of NSU as mentioned below:

    1. Financial Aid based on high academic achievement or special talents. (Merit based Scholarships)
    2. Financial Aid based on Financial Need of a student (based on Humanitarian grounds)
    3. Some scholarships are also based partly on financial need. (Merit-Need based)
    4. Some scholarships reflect the University's commitment to a student community that is broadly diverse in terms of race, geography, gender, special skills and talent.
    5. Student Employment ( Work-Study based)

    However, North South University provides financial assistance to the students in the form of Tuition waiver only.

    Who are eligible for Financial Aid at North South University?

    North South University awards financial aid in the form of full/partial tuition waiver only to the eligible students who achieve and maintain outstanding academic track records as mentioned below:

    • Undergraduate applicants securing highest or second highest score in the NSU admission test get full tuition waiver (100%). However continuation of getting such Aid is subjected to his/her academic performances and other financial aid criteria as applicable.
    • MBA applicants securing highest score in the NSU admission test are entitled to have 50% tuition waiver. However, continuation of getting such aid is subjected to his/her academic performances and other financial aid criteria as applicable.
    • NSU undergraduate students, who would be admitted in MBA program with CGPA 3.90 and above would be entitled to 50% waiver upon his/her admission.
    • General students seeking financial assistance from NSU must fulfill and maintain financial aid requirements/criteria (referred to Rules & Guidelines). Financial aid is not awarded immediately upon admission.
    • Financial assistance is also available for siblings i.e. if two brothers or two sisters or one brother and one sister, whatever may be the case, have been studying at NSU, they would be entitled to financial aid if they apply for it. In case of three brothers/sisters studying at NSU at the same time they would be entitled to a total of 100% financial assistance for one of them.
    • However, students in either case must apply for Financial Aid in proper way. The authority may review and change the above conditions from time to time.
    How will you maintain Financial Aid at NSU?

    Once you have been awarded financial aid, you must demonstrate satisfactory academic progress during your enrollment in order to maintain your aid. As a general rules, Undergraduate/Graduate students are considered to hold satisfactory academic progress if they achieve and maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.75 (for undergraduate program) and 3.25 (Graduate Program) respectively. 100% financial aid recipients must maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.25 or above. However, in any case the 100% waiver recipients must maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.00 and above to continue at least 50% waiver. Students should also fulfill other conditions to enjoy financial aid. Financial Aid once discontinued, the awardee must reapply for financial aid as a fresh applicant. Existing financial aid for the awardee will automatically be renewed if s/he fulfills the criteria of Financial Aid requirements. Financial aid recipients can also apply for enhancement of their financial assistance.

    When will you apply for Financial Aid and How?

    Applications for financial aid are invited from bonafide & eligible students of NSU for every Spring and Summer semester through well-circulated notification. Students seeking financial aid should apply to the Financial Assistance Committee in prescribed application form available at NSU Accounts & Finance Department upon payment of Tk. 300.00 (three hundred) only. In Fall semester progress and performance are reviewed and evaluated. Application should be filled-up properly and submitted to the Financial Assistance Cell of the University with necessary documents duly signed within the deadline. Deadline for financial aid application is announced and notified in due time.

    Financial Aid Calendar
    Spring Semester (January to April) :Applications are invited in January
    Summer Semester (May to August) : Applications are invited in May
    Fall Semester (September to December) : Performance and eligibility are reviewed and evaluated
    Financial Aid- "RULES & GUIDELINES"
    1. To be eligible for applying financial assistance the undergraduate students must maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.75 and graduate students 3.25.
    2. Undergraduate students must complete minimum 09 credits without non-credit course and graduate students 06 credits to apply for financial assistance.
    3. An Undergraduate financial aid recipient must register for at least 24 (Twenty four) credits and graduate students 18 credits in a year with effect from the semester of his/her receiving financial assistance.
    4. A student enjoying financial assistance at any time during his/her Undergraduate program may continue to receive such assistance up to a maximum of 04 (four) calendar years or 12 (twelve) semesters of 13-weeks each which ever is less with effect from the date of his/her first enrollment at NSU. For the graduate course of MBA program such duration for receiving the assistance may continue up to 02 (two) calendar years or 06 (six) semesters of 13-weeks each whichever is less and for Masters in Economics program it may continue up to a maximum of 1.5 (one and half) calendar years or 04 (four) semesters of 13-weeks each whichever is less.
    5. In any case, the financial assistance shall automatically discontinue for unauthorized absence in any semester. Revival of such assistance might be considered on receipt of fresh application from the student in due course.
    6. Financial assistance shall not be extended to courses that are extra to the degree requirement.
    7. Financial assistance may be extended for courses that are not part of the degree but pre-requisites for courses required for a degree i.e. ENG-102, MAT-112 and MAT-116.
    8. Financial assistance may be extended for retaking maximum of 02 (two) courses during a student's Undergraduate/Graduate program at NSU.
    9. Financial assistance shall be discontinued as soon as an awardee fulfills the credit requirements for degree under the different programs run by NSU.
    10. Applicants should apply in prescribed form along with necessary papers/documents as applicable.

    2. What are the minimum qualifications for Undergraduate Admission?
    • Academic Qualifications

      1. Second division in both SSC and HSC. No third division is acceptable or GPA 2.50 in both SSC & HSC .
      2. GCE A-level and O-level: A-level in two subjects with GPA of 2.0 and O-level in three subjects with a GPA of 2.5 or above, in the scale of A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2 & E=1.
      3. Or A USA high school diploma or equivalent, and

    • Acceptable scores in NSU's admission test, or a minimum score of 1200 in the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and at least 213 on the Computer Based Test or 550 in the regular Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or IELTS with a score of at least 5.5
    3. From where prospective students will get the admission form?

    Application forms are available for Tk 600 from NSU Accounts, 12 Banani CA, Kemal Ataturk Avenue, Dhaka 1213. A complete application includes:

    3. Clean copies of certificates and mark-sheets
    4. Two letters of recommendation from previous teachers
    Completed application forms must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar by a specific date.

    4. What are the topics of admission test?

    A three-hour Admission Test consisting of essay and multiple-choice questions in English and Mathematics will be held on a specified date Successful applicants must complete admission procedures by a specified date. The Admission Test contains SSC/O-level math problems. Applicants are advised to revise their math skills.


    5. What are the requirements for Undergraduate Programs?

    Most courses are of 3 credits. A student is required to complete about 41 courses. To be eligible for a bachelor's degree students have to complete 124/126 credits. 15 credits or 5 courses are considered full load in one academic semester. Students capable of handling this load should be able to fulfill degree requirements in four years i.e. twelve regular semesters. There are three regular semesters in each academic year: spring, summer, and fall. Students who need to take extra Math and English courses to meet degree standards may require more than twelve regular semesters and more than 124 credits.
