The Library is fully automated for providing better service to the faculty and students. This is a first on-line automated library operation system introduced among the university libraries in Bangladesh. It uses computerized database and circulation system for record keeping and reservation. Users can search and reserve books from distant work stations of NSU through LAN and internet and can check the borrowing status.
The holdings of the library cover scholarly and scientific disciplines, particularly business, economics, management, computer science, environmental studies. English language and literature, Bengali language and literature, history and culture, psychology, sociology, etc. The total number of books is over 27,000 and is constantly replenished. It subscribes over 234 journals including 143 on-line journals. In addition the library subscribes 54 Dailies and magazines and has a separate reference and journals section. The library also has a separate study room and cyber corner with broadband connection.
NSU Library is a progressive, dynamic resource, which supports the curricular and research needs of the university. Users have access to research materials, slides and A/V Cassettes, and CD-ROM database. Recently the library has been shifted to a four .storied building to accommodate more facilities and ensure better services. Library service is available six days a week in double shifts.

IDESS : The Research Institute

The Institute of Development, Environment and Strategic Studies (IDESS) is a research center housed within North South University. Though functionally autonomous, IDESS is within the administrative jurisdiction of NSU. Thus, while it enjoys the benefits of freedom and autonomy in setting up its research agenda, it also enjoys access over the resources of NSU.
With full capacity research facility, IDESS offers services and policy guidelines in diverse areas such as environment and urban development, agriculture and rural development, women's issues including family planning, child development, privatization, opinion polling industry studies, analysis of infrastructure, market analysis and evaluation of structural adjustment and stabilization policies.
Among the research projects that IDESS has undertaken are Gender Budget Project, Environment and Natural Resource Accounting, Backward Linkage Activities in Bangladesh's Textile Sector and Sustainable Use of Coastal Wetland. |

English Institute

The English Institute offers English language training and Certificate Courses to non-conventional and adult students to enhance their knowledge of the language and eligibility in the job market. This institute also offers pre-English courses. The English Institute Includes the Self-Access Center to enable students to work on developing skills independently. The center has reading and listening sections and houses the seminar library of the English Department.

French Course

From Spring 2003, the English Institute has launched a certificate course in French language in collaboration with Alliance Franchise, Dhaka.
