Center of Excellence in Higher Education
The First Private University in Bangladesh

Message from the Vice-Chancellor

With our Times Higher Education (THE) ranking North South University has stepped into a new era. We have established our position as a leader in the sphere of tertiary education in Bangladesh. THE ranks only 1800 universities in the whole world. To qualify among the top 1800 universities in the world is in itself an honor. NSU came within the range of 601-800 on debut. I also congratulate the University of Dhaka which has improved its position to be in the same range as us. Our three other technical universities, BAU, BUET, and KUET who have made it comfortably in the list (1201-1500) also deserve recognition. So, congratulations to the 5 universities making the list.

Although our celebrations since the announcement of rankings on the 12th have been nothing but warm and festive, last Thursday was the peak. 17,000 staff and students filled up the campus and enjoyed the day-long festivities in a befitting manner. There were inspiring speeches interspersed with songs and dances. There was food and festivities, and of course, the day ended with music bands playing as spectators’ bodies swayed rhythmically with the drum beats. What a day of fun-filled enjoyment! I take particular pride in the way students behaved that day. Only NSU students know how to work hard, how to play hard, and how to have joy unlimited with a high sense of responsibility!

CONGRATULATIONS ALL!

Thanks to all schools, academic, and administrative departments/units, our Institutional Ranking Cell, various student clubs, celebration preparatory committees, the volunteers, and the BNCC for doing a spectacular job with our security staff in crowd control. Top university management and our Pro-Vice-Chancellor deserves special mention.

I am fully aware of the discomfort all of us are facing because of the power shortage. We have been frantically looking at every option to minimize it. Dear students, I can tell you one thing our top priority in rationing power is to serve the staff and students in the classroom and labs and the last priority is the administrative building including the VC Office. There is a glimmer of hope, winter is setting in, which might ease the situation a bit, and hopefully, we will find a satisfactory solution before spring. I can assure you if money could buy us out of this misery we would have done it long ago. The problem is, I am told by our technical experts, one of technology and availability of energy.

We have overcome COVID-19, we will endure this power crisis too. We are resilient and resolute.

Best wishes to everyone.
