ECO 450 - Topics in Growth and Development |

This course offers an analytical exposition of selected topics in the theory of economic growth and explores their relevance to developing economies. In particular, some emphasis is placed on ‘new’ growth theories, the way they differ from previous and related contributions in the field, and the extent to which they allow one to identify the dynamics of affluence and poverty across nations. Seminal contributions (e.g. Barro, Romer, Lucas) in the field are highlighted and discussed in some depth. The course emphasizes a blend of theory and evidence with the latter drawn from a large sample of developing economics.
