This course introduces various techniques that are currently being used in the rapidly expanding plant biotechnology industries. Students are expected to learn the theoretical and practical aspect of plantlet regeneration through tissue culture, development of genetically engineered plants for insect, virus, herbicide, and pesticide resistance, stress tolerance. Use of molecular markers for rapid and reliable screening of crop plants, antisense RNA technology, development of male sterile plants and hybrid seeds, production of synthetic seeds are included.
