Statistics and its application. Variables and Attributes. Classification and tabulation of data. Populations and samples. Frequency distributions. Graphical presentation of data. Describing and summarizing data: statistical averages, measures of dispersion and shape characteristics. Linear regression and correlation. Basic probability: random experiments, events, definitions of probability, permutation and combinations, probability rules, random variables and expectations, binomial and normal distributions. Index numbers: types of indices, problems involved in the construction of index number, consumer price index and its uses. Time series: components of a time series, moving averages and seasonal indices.
