Admission Information
Masters in Public Policy and Governance (MPPG)
Academic Requirement:
  • Must have a bachelor degree (minimum four years of study) from any recognized university in Bangladesh/Nepal/Sri Lanka or abroad;
  • At least second class (or CGPA 2.75 on a 4 point scale) in all exams;
  • Candidate with a background in social science is preferred;
  • Candidate with first classes in bachelor/master degree and first divisions or GPA of 5.0 in the S.S.C. (Secondary School Certificate) and H.S.C. (Higher Secondary School Certificate) exams is strongly preferred.
Work Experience:
  • A minimum of two years’ work experience in civil service, academic and research organizations, NGOs, and bilateral and multilateral donor agencies;
  • For civil servants, the requirement of work experience can be relaxed.
Other Requirements:
  • Maximum age limit is 45 years;
  • Approval of Deputation/Study Leave from his/her employer;
  • Professional Goal Statement describing the utility and usefulness of the MPPG degree to his/her place of work;
  • Publications in a recognized/peer-reviewed journal can add extra value for admission;
  • Language Proficiency (optional):
    • TOEFL- Minimum score acceptable: 550/213 (paper-based)
    • IELTS- Minimum score acceptable: 6.0
  • Language proficiency requirement is not mandatory but can add extra value for admission.
The requirement for Self-Financed Candidates:
  • At least a bachelor or equivalent degree;
  • Tuition and other fees are applicable as per NSU rules.
ADMISSION FOR MPPG
  • One intake each year. Admission circular is given usually in websites and daily newspapers (The Daily Star, Daily Prothom Alo);
  • 12 students (9 from Bangladesh, 2 from Nepal and 1 from Sri Lanka) are taken in each batch;
  • Eligible candidates are career civil servants, executives from NGOs, academics, and researchers. Fresh graduates can apply only in self-finance category;
  • A written admission test is taken on English, General Knowledge, Analytical Skills and Basic Mathematics (total 80 marks);
  • A viva-voce exam (total 20 marks) is taken for the selected candidates in the written test;
  • The Viva board usually consists of representatives from each partner institution of Norway, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS for Executive Masters in Policy and Governance (EMPG)

New students are admitted to the program two times a year (in Spring and Fall). Applications must be submitted within the deadline announced for the semester of intake.  All admission queries should be directed to the SIPG Program Office.  To be eligible to apply for admission a candidate will require:

  1. Must have a Bachelor degree from any recognized university in Bangladesh or abroad;
  2. At least second class (or CGPA 2.75 on a 4 points scale) in all exams

 The final admission decision is taken based on the following:

  • Past academic performance (at high school, college, and university levels).
  • Scores of interviews will be administered by NSU.
  • Interview with the Admission Committee.

A complete application will include:

  • A graduate application form will be completed and signed
  • Candidates five passport-sized signed photographs and National ID.
  • Parents passport-sized signed Photographs and National ID Photocopy.
  • One set of photocopies of all previous certificates and transcripts (mark sheets), notarized or attested. Incomplete or improper attestation will deem the application void.

STRUCTURE OF EMPG

  • Degree awarded by North-South University, Dhaka, Bangladesh;
  • Two semesters (6 months/each);
  • The medium of instruction is English;
  • Six core courses and 6 specialized courses (each of 3 credits);
  • Development and submission of a practicum for 3 credits,
  • Total 36 credits are required for awarding the EMPG degree.
