Launching Ceremony of the North South Journal of Peace and Global Studies

 

The launching ceremony of the North South Journal of Peace and Global Studies was held on 13th March 2023, at North South University. It was organized by the Center for Peace Studies (CPS) of the South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance (SIPG), North South University. The editor of this journal is Dr. Norman Kenneth Swazo, Director, Office of Research and Professor, Department of History and Philosophy, and a member of CPS, SIPG, NSU. The managing editor of this journal is Dr. Mohammed Nuruzzaman, a Professor, of the Department of Political Science and Sociology (PSS), and a member of CPS, SIPG, NSU. The session chair of this ceremony was Professor Atiqul Islam, Vice Chancellor, NSU. The special guests were Dr. M. Ismail Hossain, Pro Vice Chancellor, NSU. Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed, Professor, and Director, Center for Genocide Studies (CGS), University of Dhaka, Professor. Saifuddin Ahmed, Associate Professor and Former Chair, Department of Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Dhaka, Dr. Abdur Rob Khan, Professor & Dean, School of Humanities & Social Sciences, NSU.

 

Prof. Swazo recognized the contributions of the editorial team in publishing the journal within a short period of time, and he hoped that it would be indexed in different reputable publishing houses by next year. Dr. Nuruzzaman highlighted the difficult journey of preparing the journal over the last twelve months and thanked those who contributed papers. Dr. Abdur Rob Khan shared his best wishes for the journal going forward. Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed recognized the contemporary topics in the volume and highlighted some of the upcoming challenges the team may face. Prof. Saifuddin Ahmed emphasized the importance of research in the current geopolitical context and believed the journal would greatly contribute to this area. Dr. M. Ismail Hossain iterated on the need to focus on issues that have practical applications for peace and governance in the country.


Professor Sk. Tawfique M. Haque, Director of CPS, and SIPG offered some introductory remarks, highlighting SIPG and CPS’s work, and explained how launching this journal is a testament to the organization’s commitment to knowledge-building in the field of policy and governance. Professor Atiqul Islam, VC of NSU rounded off the speeches by announcing his commitment to support the journal, stating it is in the interest of Bangladesh and the world to foster research on peacekeeping and peace-building. Dr. Abdul Wohab, Coordinator of CPS moderated the event. Following everyone’s speeches, the journal was unveiled, and its website was officially launched. The event was also attended by academics, researchers, journalists, faculty members, and students of NSU both in person and online.
