An alumni reunion event for graduates of the Master’s in Public Policy and Governance (MPPG) & EMPG programs was held on May 20, 2023, in the Syndicate Hall at North South University (NSU). The South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance (SIPG) of NSU organized it.
The MPPG program is an international Master’s degree program in the Department of Political Science and Sociology (PSS) at North South University. Students with MPPG degrees have gone on to serve in various civil service capacities in Bangladesh and other South and South East Asian countries like Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia. In 2021 SIPG also commenced the one-year Executive Masters in Policy and Governance (EMPG) catered towards professionals in Bangladesh.
The event’s Special Guest was Dr. Dewan M. Humayun Kabir, Project Director, a2i. The Session Chair was Dr. M. Ismail Hossain, Pro Vice-Chancellor, NSU. Dr. Rizwan Khair, Associate Professor, SIPG, NSU was also in attendance and moderated the event.
Dr. Rizwan Khair opened the ceremonies by welcoming the attendees and highlighting the MPPG alumni's diverse backgrounds and career makeups, noting it was a testament to the program for attracting such a wide variety of professionals. Dr. Dewan M. Humayun Kabir talked about the various trials and tribulations of the civil service and commended the resilience of those who continued to work in spite of such challenges. Dr. Ishtiaq Jamil, joining online from the University of Bergen, highlighted the close working relationship between his home institution and SIPG, and hoped they could collaborate further. Dr. M. Ismail Hossain concluded by applauding the remarkable achievements of NSU and SIPG through the execution of the MPPG program.
Following the speeches, attendees were treated to a luncheon, serving as a testament to the community spirit nurtured by the MPPG program. The day’s festivities further included a cultural program, celebrating the rich and diverse backgrounds of the community members.
