SIPG of NSU and UNDP, Bangladesh organized a training program on Trade Negotiation for the government officials and business leaders

A 3-day long training program for the government officials and business leaders on “Enhancing Trade Related Negotiation Skills for Smooth Transition of Bangladesh from LDC Graduation” was conducted on 27-29 March 2022 at NSU campus. It was jointly organized by the South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance (SIPG) of North South University and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Bangladesh. The aim of this training program was to enhance the negotiating capacity of civil servants, and business leaders to cope up with the post LDC complexity in trade issues. It was the second training program after successfully completing the pilot training on 12-16 March 2022.   

The certificate awarding ceremony and closing session of this training program was held on 29 March 2022 at NSU Syndicate Hall. Mr. M. A. Kashem, Member, Board of Trustees, NSU was the Chief Guest, and Professor Atiqul Islam, Vice Chancellor of NSU chaired the session.    

The representatives from Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Economic Relations Division (ERD) of Planning Ministry, National Board of Revenue (NBR), Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission, FBCCI, MCCI, BGMEA, and NSU participated in this training.

 

 

The founder and former President of FBCCI and member, Board of Trustees, NSU Mr. M. A. Kashem stated that it is high time the government officials and business leaders from the private sector get trained for enhancing their trade negotiation skills so that Bangladesh can flourish and develop more after the LDC Graduation.     

Professor Atiqul Islam, Vice Chancellor of NSU said that NSU is committed to build skilled human resources as Bangladesh needs more trained personnel to negotiate the trade and other deals in future. 

Dr. Nazneen Ahmed, Country Economist, UNDP, Bangladesh opined that the participants of this training program will represent Bangladesh in the global arena and strive for achieving the interests of the country in the negotiating tables. She thanked SIPG, NSU for partnering with UNDP, Bangladesh in organizing a series of such training programs.

Some of the training participants also expressed their experiences and impressions about this training. They said that they are delighted to attend such a training program and it has enhanced their negotiation skills which will be helpful in the upcoming days. Academics, researchers, civil servants, business leaders, journalists, and students were present at the closing program.
