Fahria Karim is a Mental Health Professional and a Faculty. At present, she teaches Psychology at North South University (NSU) at the undergrad level. She has been working at NSU since 2020. She also works at Psychological Health and Wellness Clinic (PHWC) as an Associate Psychological Counsellor as a visiting member. Altogether, she has 8 years of work experience in the Mental Health and Research Sector. Internationally, she has experience in working at St. Thomas’ Hospital in London, as a Health Psychology Learner. Nationally, she worked as a Student Counselor (Psychologist) at Scholastica School; a Research Associate at NewVision Solutions Ltd.; a Research Officer at Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies; and a Trainee Child Psychologist at Dhaka Shishu Hospital.
She did her four-year Bachelor's and one-year Master’s from the University of Dhaka with a special preference in Advanced Child and Adolescence Psychology. She did another Master’s in ‘Health Psychology’ from King’s College London (KCL), The United Kingdom.
She loves teaching and loves being a mental health practitioner.
She is a Proud Commonwealth Scholar.

I have been working as a teacher at NSU from 2020. 

 

Professional Services

Since 2014, I have dedicated myself fully as a psychologist. Throughout this time, I played the role of Research Assistant, Research Associate, Practicing Psychologist, and Trainer.

Student Counselor (Psychologist), Scholastica School, December 2016 to July 2018

  • As a psychologist, I did Student-Parent-Teacher counseling and consultation
  • Conducted several workshops

Research Associate, NewVision Solutions Ltd., October 2015 to October 2016

  • As a Research Associate, I worked in projects of JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization), iDE (International Develoment Enterprise), Emami India etc. Among those projects, one mentionable was: 
    1. A Qualitative Study on Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) of Young Girls and Women (2016): The study was funded by iDE and conducted by NVSL to get a deeper insight about the MHM process of females of different ages and places.

Research Officer and Assistant, Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS), August 2014 to September 2015

  • As a Research officer and assistant in BIDS, I worked directly under the supervision of a Senior Research Fellow Dr. MA Mannan. I did several project activities with him. Some of them are:
    1. Education and Literacy in Bangladesh: An Analysis from Social Inclusion Perspective (2015) (Project Officer): This was a monograph, which was commissioned by BBS and funded by UNFPA and done by Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies.
    2. Safe City for Women (2014) (Research Assistant):The project was sponsored by ActionAid Bangladesh and done by Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies with the supervision and authorship of Dr.M.A. Mannan, Senior Research Fellow, Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies.

Trainee Child Psychologist, Child Development Center (CDC), Dhaka Shishu (Children) Hospital, January 2014 to July 2014 

  •  In addition to be trained as a child psychologist, I had learned the application of psychometric tools, working in a multidisciplinary team of health care professionals in Dhaka Shishu Hospital. I worked together with Senior Child psychologist, Pediatric surgeon, Neurologist, Neuro-surgeon, Speech therapist, Nurses and other incumbents.
