

North South University (NSU) hosted a special talk titled “Geo Strategic Aspects of Global Politics” on October 4, 2026, at the VC Conference Room, NSU, bringing together faculty members students for an academic discussion on contemporary geopolitical developments, shifting global power dynamics, and the changing international order.
H.E. Boris Tadi?, former President of Serbia (2004–2012), former Minister of Defence (2003–2004) and former leader of the Democratic Party (DS), was the chief guest and speaker at the event. Professor Nasar U. Ahmed, Pro Vice-Chancellor of NSU, chaired the session. Among others, Professor Abdur Rob Khan, Treasurer, NSU; Professor A. K. M. Atiqur Rahman, Dean, SBE of NSU; Professor Shazzad Hosain, Dean, SEPS of NSU; Professor Dipak Kumar Mitra, Dean, SHLS of NSU, also attended the program. Faculty members, particularly from the School of Business and Economics (SBE) and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS), participated in the event.
In his speech, Mr. Tadi? started with his own journey to become a president from a non-political background. He examined major developments shaping contemporary global politics, with particular attention to the changing balance of power and the strategic interests of major global actors. Drawing on his extensive experience in European politics and international affairs, he discussed the geopolitical challenges facing Europe and the broader implications of the evolving international system.
The discussion also touched on the growing significance of relations among the United States, Russia, China and the European Union. Mr. Tadi? emphasised the importance of understanding the strategic interests and interactions of these major powers in shaping Serbia’s and Europe’s geopolitical environment. He also highlighted the European Union, Russia, the United States and China as key pillars of Serbia’s foreign policy, stressing the importance of maintaining a balanced approach in its relations with these major powers.
Mr. Tadi? has also consistently highlighted the importance of European security and conflict prevention. He argued that growing conflicts and interconnected geopolitical tensions were making the international environment increasingly unpredictable and stressed the importance of preventing conflicts before they escalate.
In his session Chair’s speech, Professor Nasar U. Ahmed, Pro Vice-Chancellor of NSU, expressed his appreciation for H.E. Boris Tadi?’s visit to North South University and for sharing his insights and extensive experience in international affairs with the university community. He noted that such distinguished engagements provide students and faculty with valuable opportunities to learn from global leaders and gain a deeper understanding of contemporary geopolitical developments. He also emphasised the importance of universities in fostering critical thinking, informed dialogue and a broader understanding of global affairs.
The special talk reaffirmed NSU’s commitment to promoting intellectual dialogue on issues of global significance and providing its academic community with opportunities to engage with distinguished international voices.
