Curriculum Vitae

About

Dr. Nadia Saffoon is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at North South University. She completed her MSc in Drug Development Science at King's College London as a Chevening Scholar. She went on to complete her DPhil at the University of Oxford as a Prime Minister's Fellow of Bangladesh and an Oxford Vice-Chancellors' Fund awardee. Her DPhil investigated the PHD/HIF-1α oxygen-sensing axis and its pharmacological modulation in human cells, combining hypoxia cell biology, recombinant protein expression and purification, selectivity profiling against epigenetic 2OG-dependent oxygenases, IC-MS metabolomics, and Seahorse XF respirometry. She now brings this training to teaching and research at NSU.

Her doctoral work contributed to the following outputs:

  • Patent filed (2024, Oxford University Innovation): novel small-molecule PHD inhibitor, IOX5. The associated work was covered by The Times and The Independent (UK) as a potential leukaemia treatment breakthrough.
  • Nature Cancer (2024): Study of the PHD inhibitor IOX5 in acute myeloid leukaemia.
  • Chemical Science (2024): Publication on asparagine biosynthesis.
